One of the 24 character strengths
Not needing to be the most important person in the room. Letting what you did speak for itself instead of arranging attention for it.
Humility is the strength of letting what somebody did speak for itself. Not thinking less of oneself, simply arranging less attention.
The clearest sign is what does not happen. The story does not get retold with the teller moved to the center. The credit does not get quietly redirected. A compliment gets accepted plainly, rather than deflected in a way that asks for it again.
Underneath is an accurate sense of size. Somebody who leads here knows exactly what they are good at, and does not need it confirmed this week. That is why they can hand a piece of work to somebody less able and let them learn on it.

Work that nobody attributes gets attributed to somebody else. Somebody who leads here can spend years being genuinely useful in a place that cannot say what they contribute, and find that promotions go to people who narrate their own work.
It gets confused with thinking poorly of oneself, which is nearly its opposite. A person who is unsure of their worth needs constant small reassurances; this strength is what somebody can afford precisely because they are not in doubt.
Both look like restraint from outside. Prudence holds back because of what might follow; Humility holds back because the attention was never the point.
Both put a group ahead of a person. Teamwork is about pulling your weight in it; Humility is about not needing to be named for having done so.
Everybody has all 24 of these. A result puts them in order within one person, so a strength near the bottom of somebody's list is one they reach for less often rather than one they are missing.
That also means nothing here compares one person with another. There is no reference sample behind these scales, and an order made of somebody's own answers cannot say where they stand next to anybody.
