Privacy Policy

What we collect, what we do with it, and what you can ask us to change or delete.

1. What we collect — and when

Taking an assessment collects nothing. Your answers are scored in your own browser and are not sent to us while you take it. If you close the tab partway through, nothing about it ever reaches us — there is no partial record to delete, and no way to resume.

When you finish, you see your result and choose what happens to it. If you choose to delete it, nothing is stored. We only collect the following once you choose to keep or share a result:

  • Assessment data: your responses, the computed scores, and the reports generated from them.
  • Account information:your email, the name you give us, and sign-in identifiers if you use Google. We use passwordless sign-in links and third-party sign-in, so we don’t store a password for you.
  • Your acceptance of these policies:the date and the version you agreed to, including your confirmation that you’re 18 or older.
  • Sharing, paired, and circle data:who you’ve invited, who’s invited you, paired report membership, circle membership, and — for circles specifically — the names and status of other invitees, which are shown to each invitee before they decide whether to share (see Section 3).
  • How you found us:if you create an account, we record what brought you here the first time you arrived — the link, ad, or search that referred you, and the page you landed on. It’s attached to your account once, at sign-up, and it tells us which channels are worth continuing. It says nothing about what you do on the site afterwards.

One narrow exception, stated plainly: because signing in takes you off the page — and a sign-in link may be opened on a different device — your result is saved at the moment you choose to keep it, a moment before your account exists. If you never finish signing in, that result is deleted automatically after 48 hours.

We do not directly collect or store your payment card information. Payments are handled by Stripe, through its Link service, which is the merchant of record for these purchases. That means Stripe may collect additional information directly from you at checkout — such as your email, billing address, and payment details — to issue your receipt, calculate any tax owed, and provide payment-related support. That information is held and used by Stripe under Stripe’s own privacy policy for that purpose, not ours. We receive only confirmation of whether a payment succeeded and for how much.

2. How we use it

To generate your assessment results and reports; to generate paired or circle reports you’ve consented to be part of; to maintain your account and results; to improve and calibrate scoring in aggregate, without singling out individuals; and to communicate with you about your account or invites you’ve sent or received. Section 2A sets out exactly what we email you, and what you can turn off.

2A. Email we send you

We send two kinds of email, and you control them separately.

Email about your account and your results

These are part of the service you signed up for, so they aren’t optional while your account is open:

  • Sign-in links
  • A message when a report of yours is ready, with a link back to it
  • Purchase receipts and refund confirmations
  • Invitations you send, and invitations other people send you
  • Notices about a change to your email address, and other account-security notices
  • Our replies when you write to us

Email about upgrading, or about something new

These are optional. We send them only if you check the box asking for them, and that box is never checked for you:

  • Reminders that a detailed report is available for a result you already have
  • Reminders to invite someone into a paired or circle report
  • Discount codes and offers
  • News about new assessments or features

How to stop the optional emails

Every optional email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click stops them. We act on it immediately rather than batching it, and we don’t send a follow-up email asking you to reconsider.

Unsubscribing stops the optional emails only. You still get sign-in links, your reports, your receipts, and account-security notices, because those are how you receive what you asked for. You can’t turn those off while your account is open. Deleting your account stops them.

One of our emails does both jobs. The email that delivers a free report also tells you a detailed version exists. That email is how you get your result, so it keeps arriving even after you unsubscribe — but it carries the same unsubscribe link, and clicking it stops the reminder emails that would otherwise follow it.

We don’t sell your email address, rent it, or give it to advertisers.

Every optional email includes our mailing address, which is at the bottom of this policy.

3. Paired & circle reports — data from someone else's invite

If you’re invited into a paired or circle report, you arrive because of another person’s action — their invite — not your own. So the decision to share is made by you, separately, and only after you’ve seen your own result in full. Nothing of yours is visible to the person who invited you until you choose that.

You can decline the invite entirely, take the assessment and keep the result privately without sharing it, or take it and delete it. If you don’t share, the person who invited you is not told what you chose, or whether you took it at all.

Circles

If you’re invited into a circle (a shared report for up to twelve people), the organizer gives us your name and email to send you an invitation. Unlike a paired report — where only the organizer eventually learns whether you chose to share, and only after you decide — a circle is designed so everyone can make an informed choice about who else would see their results. That means every invitee, not just the organizer, can see the names of everyone else invited to the circle, and their current status (invited, shared, or declined), before deciding whether to share their own results.

If your invitation is replaced before you accept it — for example, because the organizer mistyped your email — your name and email are removed from that circle entirely. Once you’ve accepted your invitation, no one but you can remove you from the circle; see Section 5 for how to do that.

4. Downloads & the limits of opting out

Participants in a paired or circle report can download it. If you later opt out or ask us to remove your data from a paired or circle report:

  • We remove your data from future versions of that report and from anything SelfWyse still hosts.
  • We cannotreach copies already downloaded, saved, printed, or forwarded by other participants — those exist outside our systems. We disclose this at the point of sharing, not just at opt-out, so it isn’t a surprise.

If you generate a share link for your own individual report, turning that link off prevents anyone from using it going forward, but we can’t retract a copy someone already saved or printed from it before you turned it off — the same limitation as above, applied to a link instead of a download.

5. Data retention & deletion

We don’t keep results you didn’t choose to keep. An assessment you abandon partway is never stored at all. A completed result you choose to delete is never stored. A result you chose to keep but then never finished signing in for is deleted automatically after 48 hours.

You can delete your account yourself, any time, from your account page— it takes effect immediately and can’t be undone. For a full export of your data, ask through our help page— pick “Privacy, or deleting my data” — or email privacy@selfwyse.com. Self-service export isn’t built yet; until it is, a person handles each export request by hand, and we’ll act on it.

If you delete your account after your result is already part of a paired report: the paired report ends for both people, the same as if you’d chosen to leave it. A paired report only exists as both people’s data together, so there’s nothing left to preserve for the other person once yours is gone.

If you delete your account after your result is already part of a circle report: you’re removed from that circle, the same as leaving one. Your results drop out of the report immediately, and the report continues for the remaining participants — unless that drops the circle below three people, in which case it stops rendering. Your name may still appear on the circle’s roster as someone who was invited and later left; your results do not.

We may retain limited data where required for fraud prevention or legal compliance even after account deletion.

6. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain uses. You can exercise these through our help page or by emailing privacy@selfwyse.com.

7. Children's privacy

SelfWyse is intended for users 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.

8. Cookies & analytics

We use a small number of cookies, stored in your browser:

  • A session cookiethat keeps you signed in. Essential to the Service working — there’s no way to use an account without it.
  • A cookie tied to our pre-launch tester access gate. Essential while the site is in this testing period.
  • A first-party cookie that remembers, for 30 days, how you first arrived at selfwyse — for example, which link or ad you clicked. It isn’t shared with any third party, and it doesn’t track you across other websites. It exists so we can tell which marketing channels are actually working, not to build a profile of you. We don’t set this one at all if you’re in the UK, the EU, or the wider European Economic Area — see below.

The first two are strictly necessary for the Service to function. The third is not — it exists for our own marketing measurement, not to deliver anything you asked for.

We don’t use any third-party analytics service— no Google Analytics, no advertising or social pixels, no session recording, no cross-site trackers. We don’t log which pages you visit. The cookie described above is the only measurement of any kind on this site, and it records only how you first arrived.

If you’re in the UK or the EU

Law in the UK, the EU, and the rest of the European Economic Area says a website has to ask permission before storing anything in your browser that isn’t strictly necessary. The third cookie above isn’t strictly necessary — it’s for our own marketing measurement, not for anything you asked us to do.

So we don’t set it for you.If we can see that your request is coming from the UK or the EEA, that cookie is never written, and there is nothing for you to accept or decline. That is also why you aren’t being shown a cookie banner: we’d rather give up knowing which ad brought you here than interrupt you to ask. The other two cookies — the one that keeps you signed in and the one for our testing gate — are strictly necessary, and they don’t require permission anywhere.

We work out where you are from the network your request arrives on. We don’t store that, and it isn’t precise — it tells us a country, not a place.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.

10. International users

SelfWyse is operated from the United States, and our servers and database are located there. We accept customers and process assessment results for people located outside the United States, including in the EU and UK — this replaces the earlier, US-only version of this section now that selfwyse is actively sold internationally. If you’re outside the US, your data is transferred to and stored in the United States, which may not have data protection laws equivalent to those where you live.

If you’re in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; to object to or restrict our processing of it; and to complain to your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these, contact privacy@selfwyse.com.

We have not yet appointed a formal EU/UK representative or put a specific safeguard (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) in place for transferring data to the US. This is a genuinely open item, not a settled position, and needs attorney input before this section is complete.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service changes. We’ll post the updated version here with a new date.
